GNU Wget is a network utility to retrieve files from the web using HTTP(S) and FTP, the two most widely used internet protocols. It works non-interactively, so it will work in the background, after having logged off. The program supports recursive retrieval of web-authoring pages as well as FTP sites -- you can use Wget to make mirrors of archives and home pages or to travel the web like a WWW robot.

VLC is the VideoLAN project's media player. It plays MPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, MOV, WMV, QuickTime, WebM, FLAC, MP3, Ogg/Vorbis files, DVDs, VCDs, podcasts, and multimedia streams from various network sources.

ldm is an X11 display manager similar to xdm, gdm and kdm, but unlike those it wraps the X11 traffic within an SSH tunnel to provide a secure login mechanism for remote X sessions.

Nokogiri (鋸) is an HTML, XML, SAX, and Reader parser. It is able to search documents via XPath or CSS3 selectors, and is a drop-in replacement for Hpricot (though not bug for bug).

The 'libunistring' library implements Unicode strings (in the UTF-8, UTF-16, and UTF-32 encodings), together with functions for Unicode characters (character names, classifications, properties) and functions for string processing (formatted output, width, word breaks, line breaks, normalization, case folding, regular expressions).
